Title: Nutritionist Schedule: Full-Time

Division: Program

Working Group: Global Program (GP)

Reports to: Tanzania National Director

Ministry Function:

The Nutritionist supports the ministry of Convoy of Hope (COH) by working under the leadership of the Tanzania National Director to successfully identify nutrition problems and plan appropriate actions to address them within COH’s Children’s Feeding Initiative (CFI). This involves the assessment of nutritional status and implementation of programs, including dissemination of social behavior change communication (SBCC) messages to improve the overall health of mothers and children and their families in COH Program Centers, surrounding communities, and other identified project sites. The Nutritionist is responsible for day-to-day operations, maintenance, advancement, and provision of technical support for all nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive programs. The Nutritionist will also support the Tanzania National Director in report preparation regarding all COH nutrition-sensitive or nutrition-specific interventions.

The Nutritionist will be knowledgeable of Tanzania nutrition trends and best practices in nutrition. You will perform frequent travel to CFI Program Centers and other COH project sites within Tanzania

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assess the nutritional needs of CFI participants and as requested by the Tanzania National

Director, and the nutritional needs of other GP program participants.

2. Facilitate training sessions for program leaders, volunteers, and program beneficiaries (children

and adults) on nutrition, health, and WASH related topics.

3. Monitor WASH behaviors, including food preparation and service, according to COH CFI

standards.

4. Collect data from Program Centers, as requested by the Tanzania National Director.

5. Advise Tanzania National Director on WASH improvements that need to be made at Program

Centers and other GP project sites.

6. Advise in procurement of healthy foods and products for CFI.

7. Collaborate with Tanzania Ministry of Health (MOH) to stay current on local, regional, and

country-level nutrition and health trends, laws, policies, and initiatives.

8. Advise Tanzania National Director on possible partnerships with other like-minded NGOs and the

Tanzania MOH to achieve CFI program specifications and improve nutrition integration across

other GP programs.

9. Conduct preliminary research (including policy research, anthropometry, household surveys and

key informant interviews) and baseline assessments at sites of potential or new Program Centers.

10. Participate in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of all nutrition and health related

components of COH’s women’s empowerment and agriculture programs.

11. Produce and submit high-quality reports.

12. Troubleshoot problems/challenges that arise in the field.

13. As a member of the Global Program team, supports other programs as assigned.

14. Other duties as assigned.


MINISTRY DESCRIPTION

Required, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in nutrition sciences, dietetics, or a related field with training in the

following areas:

a. Required training:

i. Nutrition assessment including anthropometry

ii. WASH standards

iii. Social behavior change communication

b. Preferred additional knowledge/training:

i. Nutrition-sensitive interventions

ii. Qualitative research


2. Fluency in spoken and written English and Kiswahili.

3. At least one year of experience facilitating nutrition/community health training is preferred.

4. Ability to evaluate and analyze anthropometric data according to established standards

(knowledge of Anthro and AnthroPlus is preferred).

5. Produce computer-generated reports and input/manage data.

6. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of an integrated team.

7. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

8. Comfortable traveling to various Program Centers and other project sites within Tanzania.

9. Serve as an advocate for the ministry, striving to nurture, broaden and develop financial and other resource opportunities to support and expand organizational and program ministry.

10. Ability to positively represent the ministry of Convoy of Hope, including its mission statement and core values, to all outside constituencies.
