  • The tournament will draw a total of 100 golfers from clubs across mainland Tanzania, promising an exciting showcase of talent and competition.

Dar es Salaam. The stage is set for one of Tanzania’s premier golfing events, as the 2025 Morogoro Open is scheduled to tee off this Friday at the scenic Morogoro Gymkhana Club.

The tournament will draw a total of 100 golfers from clubs across mainland Tanzania, promising an exciting showcase of talent and competition.

According to event coordinator Seif Mcharo, the tournament will feature players from various categories, including Division A, B, and C, as well as senior, junior, and ladies divisions. The event is expected to conclude on Sunday, July 13.

Mcharo confirmed that all preparations have been finalized, with the course ready to host golfers of all calibers.

“We’ve completed the necessary arrangements and look forward to hosting a successful tournament. All top golfers are expected to participate,” Mcharo said.

Division A golfers—those with handicaps ranging from 0 to 9—will compete in a 54-hole stroke play format spread over three days, making this category the tournament’s main attraction. Meanwhile, golfers in the other divisions will take on a 36-hole challenge over the weekend.

Recognised under the prestigious World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) system, this year’s edition is poised to deliver three days of intense play on Morogoro Gymkhana’s lush fairways and demanding greens. For local amateur golfers, it offers not only competitive thrills but also the chance to improve their rankings and gain national recognition.

The Morogoro Open has grown steadily in reputation over the years, often attracting some of the country’s best amateur talent.

Its WAGR status adds further prestige, drawing attention from both up-and-coming golfers and seasoned players aiming to make their mark in the national circuit.

Mcharo noted that the participation of golfers from across the country reflects the growing interest and investment in the sport.

“The level of commitment and enthusiasm we’re seeing is a positive sign for Tanzanian golf,” he said. “It’s not just about the competition, but also about fostering the spirit of the game.”
