The rise in popularity of rhumba music has seen the mushrooming of rhumba joints in Nairobi and other towns. Empire Gardens located inside Embakasi Village Craft Market (City Cabanas stage) on Mombasa Road in Nairobi is one of the latest sensations. The increasingly popular joint hosts shows featuring the best of rhumba music mixes by resident DJ Jazbah MVP.

Speaking to the Saturday Nation earlier this week, DJ Jazbah said he was elated to be hosting rhumba shows at the new spot.

“We have rhumba shows from Thursdays through to Tuesdays plus family shows on Sundays, " he said. Revellers can also sample a variety of African cuisines and enjoy their favourite drinks at special prices. For sports fans, the spot also offers a special screening of live games, especially football matches on large screens. Saturdays and Sundays are often ideal days for the sports fans at Empire Gardens. Rhumba shows start at 3pm until late.

In the recent past, the spot has hosted live rhumba shows. The most recent performance was by rhumba star Johnny Junior and his BV Band, which was a crowd-puller.

Johnny Junior is popular for blending Luo ballads with the Congolese Rhumba beats. According to the management, arrangements are in place to host shows by other top Rhumba bands.
