Texas police arrest Kenyan man for allegedly shooting wife dead

Police in Killeen, Texas, have arrested a Kenyan man suspected of shooting his wife at their home.
John Gitau Mwangi, 42, is suspected of shooting his 37-year-old wife, Esther Gitau, multiple times, according to Killeen police.
She was found inside a Killeen home on Friday, February 21, according to the Killeen Police Department.
Officers were called to the residence at 7:15pm local time on Friday night for a welfare check. Upon arrival, they found the 37-year-old woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at 9.29pm.
Authorities believe the shooting was related to domestic violence and said there was no risk to the public.
Police said two young children were in the house at the time of the killing. Authorities have confirmed that the children were found unharmed and unaware of the horror that had unfolded in their home.
Following an intensive investigation, detectives from the Robbery-Homicide Unit obtained an arrest warrant for Mr Mwangi. He was located and taken into custody at Fort Cavazos, the military facility where he was stationed.
He is now being held at the Killeen City Jail, where he faces serious charges that could carry a life sentence or even the death penalty under Texas law.
Mr Mwangi is expected to be formally charged in the coming days.
