EACC arrests Prof Anangwe, UoN Council members

UoN Council Chair Prof Amukowa Anangwe at anti-corruption court over alleged abuse of office

Three members of the University of Nairobi (UoN) council have been arrested by officers from the anti-graft watchdog on allegations of abuse of office in the unlawful reappointment of Brian Ouma as Chief Operations Officer.

The three targeted by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) are UoN Council chair Prof Amukowa Anangwe, Dr Ahmed Sheikh, Carren Kerubo and Mr Ouma.

They were arraigned Friday afternoon in Milimani, Nairobi.

Prof Anangwe was reportedly arrested in Kisumu and is currently in transit to Nairobi. According to a charge sheet seen by Nation, Joel Kamau Kibe and Dr Darius Mogaka Ogutu will also be charged alongside the other four.

EACC accuses the trio of passing a resolution to re-appoint him despite a pre-existing letter from Prof Stephen Kiama which rescinded Mr Ouma’s appointment, contrary to a judgment delivered on April 8, 2024, by Employment and Labour Relations Court.

In court, they opposed plea taking in the graft case filed against them. They cited a court order prohibiting the removal of Mr Ouma from office.
