Nairobi residents have been warned to expect traffic disruptions over the weekend as two key events are held.
The Heart to Heart Run, scheduled to begin at 7 am on Saturday at the Waterfront Mall, will involve hundreds of participants taking part in two charity runs — 7 kilometres and 4.8 kilometres.
According to the event route maps, the affected roads include sections of Lang’ata Road, Ngong Road, Dagoretti Road, Miotoni Road, Bogani Road, Karen Road, and Warai Road.
The main 7km route starts and ends at Waterfront Mall. It passes through the Karen Hospital area, winds through Brookhouse School and Polo Streets, and goes along various residential roads.
Meanwhile, the shorter 4.8 km route will form a triangle around Lang'ata Road, Ngong Road and Dagoretti Road.
The organisers are working closely with the Nairobi traffic police to ensure the safety of both participants and motorists.
On Sunday, the city will also see several major roads closed to facilitate the Nairobi City Marathon, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 6 2025.
The closures will begin at 10 pm on Saturday, July 5 and continue at various times throughout Sunday, July 6, affecting major traffic routes in and around the capital.
The Nairobi Expressway is among the key roads to be closed. It will be shut down in both directions from James Gichuru to JKIA from 10 pm on Saturday until 3 pm on Sunday.
Waiyaki Way (inner lanes) will also be closed from midnight to 10 am Sunday between Musa Gitau Road and the entrance to the expressway.
Mombasa Road and the Southern Bypass (Likoni Road crossing) will also be closed from midnight to 11 am, affecting all roundabouts and exits into and out of the city.
Uhuru Highway will be closed from midnight to 2 pm in two sections: between the Southern Bypass and Langata Roundabout, and between Bunyala Roundabout and Kenyatta Avenue.
Meanwhile, Kenyatta Avenue will be closed from midnight to 4 pm, particularly between the Panafric Hotel and Uhuru Highway.
City authorities and traffic police will be on the ground to assist with rerouting and minimise inconvenience to the public.
