The National Police Service on Monday evening said Juja MP George Koimburi on Friday escaped a dragnet by security agencies.

The officers said the MP is under investigation on land fraud claims, even as it probed his abduction report.

"The MP has been under investigation for a land fraud matter and a consent to prosecute was issued by the ODPP. On Friday, May 23, the MP having been fully aware of police intentions to arrest, evaded a dragnet and duped police by escaping using a motor cycle alongside his private security and switched off his mobile phone," said NPS in a statement.

The police said after the escape, the MP’s car had only the driver who was arrested and released after recording a statement.

"The MP only resurfaced today amid the abductions claims. Police from Juja visited the alleged scene which was properly documented," the police added.

A special team from DCI has since been dispatched to investigate the alleged abduction.

"NPS reaffirms its unwavering commitment to serving and protecting all Kenyans, residents, visitors, and their property, by ensuring that all reported cases are thoroughly and expeditiously investigated to bring those responsible to justice."

Mr Koimburi, a known political ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, was allegedly abducted while attending a church service in Mugutha, Juja by unknown people. Mr Koimburi is, however, not new to controversies, with pending criminal cases in court.

He was on Monday found dumped unconscious in a coffee plantation in Kiambu and taken to Karen Hospital.
