  • Dismissing political distractions, the Deputy President reiterated the government’s dedication to service delivery.
  • Kindiki said the focus was on economic growth, solving people’s challenges and improving earnings for Kenyans.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has kicked off development tours in Mt Kenya region, dishing out goodies as he prepares the ground for President William Ruto’s visits to the restless region.

While the DP was in Nyeri on Friday, January 31, he will be in Embu County on Saturday, February 1.

Speaking in Kieni Constituency when he launched the construction of Endarasha-Charity-Watuka Road, which had stalled since 2019, Prof Kindiki said the government would revive such projects in the region.

He said at least Sh17 billion had been allocated to revive stalled projects and the construction of 12 roads in Nyeri County alone, adding that the funds were now available.

He also said that the government is constructing new markets in the county to boost trade and support small-scale businesses.

The County Aggregation and Industrial Park is being developed in Nyeri to add value to farm produce, increasing farmers’ earnings once operational the DP added.

The Sh500 million industrial park will feature aggregation centres for various agricultural products, warehouses, cooling facilities, logistics zones, and an extensive road network linking the industrial park.

“We will monitor closely the progress of construction of the roads, markets, and electricity connection projects in the county to ensure faster completion of the projects for the people to benefit from them,” he said.

At Aguthi in Kieni East, the DP launched a Sh164.4 million Last Mile Connectivity Project, which will provide electricity to over 1,000 residents.

Prof Kindiki said nationally, the number of people connected to electricity had risen from 2.7 million in 2013 to 9 million in 2025.

“There are more areas without connection that is why we have allocated funds for the connection of one million more Kenyans in the next 20 months. The economy is now flourishing. Now it’s time for development and bettering the lives of Kenyans,” the DP added.

Dismissing political distractions, the Deputy President reiterated the government’s dedication to service delivery.

“Engaging in politics now would be irresponsible, as it would disrupt service delivery and cause suffering to the people,” he said.

The Deputy President said the focus was on economic growth, solving people’s challenges and improving earnings for millions of Kenyans, adding that it was not time to get immersed in unproductive engagements.

“The President and the government are focused on finding solutions to the problems our people are facing. We don’t have any interest in political fights. Our focus is on expansion of our roads, water, electricity, creation of jobs,” the DP said.

Prof Kindiki was accompanied by Othaya MP Wambugu Wainaina, Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi, Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina and Nyeri Woman Representative Rahab Mukami among other leaders from Rift Valley.

Kieni MP Mr Wainaina said the people of Nyeri will stand with President Ruto so as to benefit from the government they voted for. He told the residents to be patient as the government implements projects in the area.

Earlier, the DP was in Nandi County, where he attributed the steady economic growth of the country in the last two years to implementation of the Kenya Kwanza’s bottom-up fiscal policy model.

He said the economic growth and the declined inflation rate of 2.7 per cent were capable of sustaining the socioeconomic welfare of Kenyans by lowering the cost of living.

“The exchange rate of the shilling against the dollar has improved in the last two years signalling the recovery of our economy,” said Prof Kindiki during the first graduation ceremony of Ollessos National Polytechnic in Nandi County,

“The price of essential foodstuffs such as unga (flour) has reduced from as high as Sh200 to an average of Sh120 per 2 Kg packet while the price of fuel has gone down and it will gradually come down,” said Mr Kindiki.
