The government has ordered all media houses running television and radio channels in the country to stop the live coverage of the ongoing protests marking the first anniversary since the June 25, 2024, demonstrations.

In a letter to newsrooms, the Communications Authority of Kenya termed the live coverage of the happenings as illegal and, as such, should be stopped with immediate effect.

The live coverage of the demonstrations, David Mugonyi, the CAK Director General, said, is contrary to Articles 33 (2) and 34 (1) of the Constitution of Kenya and Section 461 of the Kenya Information and Communications Act, 1998.

“This is therefore to direct all television and radio stations to stop any live coverage of the demonstration forthwith. Failure to abide by this directive will result in regulatory action stipulated in the Kenya Information and Communications Act, 1998,” the statement read.
