The 2015 World Athletics Championships javelin champion Julius Yego of Kenya, hopes to continue his good form when he competes in Paris Diamond League on Friday at the Charléty Stadium in the French capital city.

Yego is fresh from inspiring victories in Motonet GP Lahti and Paavo Nurmi Games which are World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze races.

Yego competed in Motonet GP Lahti and Paavo Nurmi Games, throwing 82.95 metres and 83.08m respectively in Finland. The 2016 Olympic Games bronze medallist faces a big challenge as he returns Paris 10 months since competing in the Olympic Games.

Yego finished fifth in men’s javelin at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games with a throw of 87.72m, losing to Pakistani Arshad Nadeem (92.97m), Nareej Chopra (89.45m) of India and Andersen Peters (88.54) of Grenada.

Yego, Chopra, Peters and Julien Weber of Germany meet again on Friday night after they clashed last at Doha Diamond League Meeting on May 16, when the German won in a world leading time of 91.06m, and Chopra finished second after surpassing the 90m mark for the first time with a throw of 90.23m.

Kenya’s steeplechase wonder gal Faith Cherotich is back to chase more Diamond League glory in Paris, where she claimed bronze in the Olympics 10 month ago. Cherotich will be chasing a hat-trick of victories this season after super serves in Doha and Oslo in 9:05.08 and 9:02.60 respectively.

With the Olympic champion Wilfred Yavi of Bahrain missing, Cherotich will renew rivalry with the 2021 Olympic champion Peruth from Uganda, who looked rusty in her seventh place finish in Doha.

Cherotich will be out to reclaim the world lead from her compatriot Doris Lemngole, who registered 8:58 at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) games on Saturday in Eugene, Oregon, USA.

World leader Nelly Chepchirchir of Kenya, who won the Doha and Rabat legs of the Diamond League, faces Rome Diamond League winner Sarah Healy in a potentially-explosive women's 1,500m.

Chepchirchir, whose steady rise has attracted comparisons to Olympic and world 1,500m champion Faith Kipyegon, won in Doha in 4:05.00, then claimed a world leading of 3:58.04 in Rabat.

She started her season strongly with a Mile Road victory at Adezero Road-to-Records in 4:23.99 in April in Germany.
