What you need to know:

  • At Dandora Stadium, AFC Leopards and Kariobangi Sharks settled for a 0-0 draw, while Ulinzi Stars and Kakamega Homeboyz also played to a barren draw at the same venue.
  • Elsewhere, Posta Rangers boosted their survival hopes with a 2-1 win over Shabana FC at Kenyatta Stadium, while Mara Sugar thrashed FC Talanta 4-1 at Awendo Greens Stadium in Migori.
  • KCB had only won once in their last nine matches before securing the vital three points against Murang’a Seal.

KCB coach Patrick Odhiambo says his team will build on their 2-0 victory over Murang’a Seal to keep their Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) title ambitions alive.

Sunday's win at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos lifted the Bankers from sixth to fourth place with 32 points after 20 rounds.

Kenya Police lead the standings with 37 points, tied with Tusker, who have an inferior goal difference. Defending champions Gor Mahia, who have a game in hand, are third with 34 points.

At Dandora Stadium, AFC Leopards and Kariobangi Sharks settled for a 0-0 draw, while Ulinzi Stars and Kakamega Homeboyz also played to a barren draw at the same venue.

Elsewhere, Posta Rangers boosted their survival hopes with a 2-1 win over Shabana FC at Kenyatta Stadium, while Mara Sugar thrashed FC Talanta 4-1 at Awendo Greens Stadium in Migori.

KCB had only won once in their last nine matches before securing the vital three points against Murang’a Seal.

Substitute Vincent Ondabu was the hero, scoring in the 78th and 83rd minutes to seal the win. Coach Odhiambo admitted disappointment over their recent form, having led the league in the early stages before crumbling in recent matches.

"We have had a bad run, and I had a talk with my players on how we can get back on track and win our matches. The spirit and teamwork were evident today, and we have to build on it to get better results and compete in the league," said Odhiambo.

KCB’s only previous win in the last nine matches came on December 21, when they narrowly defeated Mara Sugar 3-2 at Awendo Green Stadium.

"The league has already hit the halfway mark, and we have to work extra hard to bridge the gap from the games we lost. That is why we must replicate today’s performance and work as a team. I’m still optimistic we can catch up with the teams above us," added Odhiambo.

Leopards and Sharks squandered clear-cut chances that could have secured either side a win.

Kariobangi Sharks goalkeeper Sepstianos Wekesa produced a string of fine saves to deny Ingwe, who piled pressure in the final minutes of the well-attended match.

The draw saw AFC Leopards slip from fourth to sixth with 30 points, though they have a game in hand. Sharks remain 13th with 22 points.

"In most cases, we always score in the first half. Since we didn’t do that against Sharks, we were under pressure. We also welcomed some players from injury, like Ovella Ochieng, but he has not played as he always does," said Leopards interim coach Fredrick Ambani.

Sharks captain Kevin Onesmas admitted they need to improve their finishing.

"Had we capitalised on our chances, we would have won. I think what we need to work on is scoring, but we played well."

At Kenyatta Stadium, Shami Kibwana and Curtis Wekesa were on target as Posta Rangers defeated Shabana FC 2-1 to climb from the bottom of the table to 15th place with 20 points.

Shabana, whose only goal came from Dennis Okoth, now sit seventh with 28 points.
