Kenyan football fraternity joined AFC Leopards Sports Club in mourning the death of the club’s Secretary-General Gilbert Andugu.

Andugu passed away Tuesday at a private hospital in Kitengela where he had been hospitalised since last month.  He was 43 years old.

Andugu was serving his first term as AFC Leopards secretary, having been elected in June 2022.

The football administrator, who previously headed the once vibrant AFC Leopards Mombasa branch, had announced that he would not defend his seat during the next polls scheduled for June 29.

Andugu who has been attending healthcare services on and off since last year took over the SG post from Oliver Sikuku who was not eligible for re-election after serving a maximum two terms.

“Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to Andugu’s family, friends and relatives. We are deeply saddened by the news of passing on of our Secretary-General. He had built a reputation for his organisational skill and commitment,” AFC Leopards announced through a social media post.

Paying his tribute, club patron Alex Muteshi said Andugu oversaw several structural improvements within the club notably in human resource.

Dedicated leader

“We have lost a young, passionate and a dedicated leader who served the club with unwavering commitment. His tireless efforts towards the growth and success of AFC Leopards will always be remembered and cherished.

His absence leaves a significant void and he will be deeply missed. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” added Muteshi.

“We join AFC Leopards in mourning their SG, Gilbert Andugu. We send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friend during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace,”  said Bandari FC.

“He was selfless, progressive and transformative SG. His wisdom, love for the club and unwavering dedication will deeply be missed. May Gor grant the family strength to overcome the loss and May SG Andugu’s soul rest in peace,” said club fan a member of Vatican branch Julius Bob Anyula.

“ He was a dedicated servant of the club,” said AFC Leopards Skates branch.
