Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has accused Gor Mahia of lying about the chaos that marred their Premier League match against Shabana at Gusii Stadium on Sunday.
FKF Secretary Harold Ndege said the claims by Gor that a call from a high ranking federation official in Nairobi to allow the game to take place was false.
Ndege said the decision to let the game proceed was made by the match commissioner and the federation was not aware of any call made to abandon the game which experienced violent acts on the stands that led to the injury of 72 fans.
“It is very difficult for me to respond to a statement which can only be linked to hearsay because the match commissioner was the one responsible for security concerns and if he felt there was a threat then he shouldn’t have allowed the game to go on,” said Ndege.
Gor Mahia on Monday released a statement saying they were shocked the referee rescinded a decision agreed by both Gor and Shabana to stop the game claiming the match official had received a call from Nairobi to continue with the game.
Ndege claimed as long as the match commissioner agreed that there was no security threat, there was no reason to stop the game.
He defended the suitability of Gusii Stadium to host the game saying an assessment was done and the venue passed fit.
“On the issues of hooliganism, we have left the matter to the police to investigate and culprits whose images were caught unleashing terror will be dealt with,” said Ndege.
The FKF official said they are reviewing the match report and if Shabana are found responsible for the chaos stern action will be taken against them.
