Uprising, Wendani face-off in Koth Biro tourney

It will be an action packed Utamaduni Day at Umeme Sports Ground in Ziwani, Nairobi as three group stage matches of the 2021/22 Koth Biro Football Tournament will be on the cards.
Wendani United and Uprising FC will set the ball rolling from 9.30am - the two teams fighting to keep alive their chances of finishing within the top two places in Group D to progress to the tournament’s round of 16 stage.
The other two matches of the day will all be a Group A affair, Umeme Bees taking on Eastleigh Stars from 12 pm, before Wenyeji United square it out with Kisima at 3: 30 pm.
A victory over Uprising FC will see Wendani cement their lead in Pool D whose other members are Black Mamba, Biafra Kamaliza, MacMillan and Pangani United.
Currently, Wendani are top with six points having thumped Biafra and Pangani 3-0 and 4-0 respectively.
Wendani coach Brian Sinne exuded confidence of his side continuing with their brilliant run, saying their aim is to win the title for the first time ever and see Kahawa Wendani regain its lost glory of being a football powerhouse in Nairobi.
"Even them (Uprising Stars), we want to beat them and the boys are well prepared for that. We want to win the title so that our base (Kahawa Wendani) can be respected again in terms of being home to top football talents," said Sinne.
His Uprising counterpart Hamza Kipkemoi said the that clash is a must-win for them to increase their chances of progressing to the knock-out stage.
"Our last remaining three matches are very tough and must win. We have intensified our preparations and come Sunday, I know we will bounce back," said Kipkemoi.
In Group A, Camchedus tops with five points from three matches, ahead of Kisima who garnered four from two matches.
Eastleigh, who have played three matches, are third with four points while Wenyeji United are fourth with three points from two matches. Kayole Youth and Umeme Bees are fifth and sixth respectively after losing one match each.
The group stage contest is expected to come to an end on January 10. The four top teams will be awarded prize money, with the winners taking home Sh300,00, runners-up Sh100,000, third placed team Sh50,000 and Sh20,000 for the team finishing fourth.
