What you need to know:

  • Kibera, who lost last year’s final 2-1 to Starlets at Police Sacco Stadium, will be looking to go one better this time.
  • “We came for a win and we got it. We shift our focus to our match against Vihiga, and the plan is to also go for a win. The players played according to plan,” said Bujego after the match.

Kibera Soccer Women and Vihiga Queens will clash in the final of the fourth edition of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women’s Cup.

The two sides won their respective semi-finals on Sunday against league champions Kenya Police Bullets and Bungona Queens.

At Mumias Sports Complex, four-time FKF Women’s Premier League champions Vihiga Queens edged Bungoma Queens 2-1 in a hard-fought semi-final.

Vihiga took the lead in the 11th minute through striker Diana Cherono, but Bungoma hit back in the 30th minute.
Midfielder Noel Amutata sealed the win for Vihiga with a decisive goal in the 84th minute.

This will be Vihiga’s second appearance in the Cup final since September 30, 2023, when they lost 2-0 to defending champions Ulinzi Starlets at Kenya Utalii College grounds in Nairobi.

Ulinzi Starlets, champions in 2021 and 2023, were eliminated by FKF-WPL reigning champions Kenya Police Bullets in the quarter-finals.

In the other semi-final at Nairobi’s Dandora Stadium, Bullets were knocked out after a 2-0 defeat to Kibera.

The first half ended goalless, but Kibera capitalised on a defensive error in the 53rd minute. Maximilla Robbie pounced on a loose ball after a blunder by defender Vida Okeyo and scored from just outside the box.

Bullets coach Beldine Odemba responded with a double substitution in the 62nd minute, bringing on Lydia Waganda and Mercy Masika for Okeyo and Linda Kihara.

Kibera coach David Bujego countered by replacing Robbie with Stella Adhiambo in the 67th minute to bolster the attack.

In the second minute of added time, Adhiambo was fouled by Bullets’ Norah Ann, resulting in a penalty that striker Faith Mboya coolly converted to seal the victory.

This marks the second straight year the Bullets have exited the tournament at the semi-final stage. Last year, they were eliminated by Ulinzi Starlets on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
