Kenyan hockey teams Sikh Union Club (men) and United States International University Africa (USIU-A) Spartans women missed out on final berths of the African Cup for Clubs Champions after failing to secure must-win victories in their last pool matches on Wednesday at the Youth City Hockey Stadium in Port Said, Ismail, Egypt.

Sikh Union played to a thrilling 4-4 draw against Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) from Ghana, while Spartans was held to a 1-1 draw by Plateau from Nigeria. USIU-A coach John Kabuu expressed disappointment at missing out on the final, but remained hopeful about clinching bronze.

"We really wanted to play in the final, and we gave our all in the match, but our best was not good enough. We hope to bounce back and win a bronze medal so that we can improve on our last performance, where we finished fourth in Abuja, Nigeria, in 2018."

Elsewhere, Mombasa Sports Club women (MSC) secured a 1-0 victory over Egypt’s Smouha Club in Pool 'B' of the women’s tournament. MSC finished third in the standings with seven points, the same as USIU-A, but the students have a superior goal difference.

In the men’s category, Kenya's Western Jaguars finally found their rhythm, registering their first win of the tournament with a dominant 6-1 victory over Niger Flickers from Nigeria.

Jaguars, who silver in last year's edtion, finished fourth in Pool ''A' with four points, ahead of Flickers, who remained winless throughout the competition. Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) finished atop the men’s standings, remaining unbeaten with nine points.

Meanwhile, Kada Queens and Delta Queens from Nigeria are tied on six points each, but Kada Queens hold a superior goal difference, setting up an exciting finish in the women's competition.

With bronze medals now the target, Kenyan teams will look to finish the tournament on a high note when they return to action on Friday.
