Yanga renew Aucho’s deal, recruit Ivorian midfielder

What you need to know:

  • A reliable source within the club confirmed that Aucho’s previous contract had expired, prompting negotiations that led to his one-year renewal.

Dar es Salaam. Reigning Mainland Tanzania Premier League champions Young Africans SC (Yanga) have given their fans something to cheer about as the club officially renewed the contract of Ugandan midfield enforcer Khalid Aucho for another year.

In a move that reinforces their ambition for continued domestic dominance and continental impact, the Jangwani Street giants have also secured the services of Ivorian midfielder Mohamed Doumbia on a two-year deal.

Aucho, who joined Yanga in August 2021, has played a crucial role in the club’s success over the past three seasons.

His commanding presence in the holding midfield position has helped Yanga win back-to-back Premier League titles and cement their status as the top team in the country.

In addition to league triumphs, Aucho, who also captains the Uganda national team, was instrumental in Yanga’s victories in the Federation Cup and their historic run to the CAF Confederation Cup final during the 2022/2023 season.

A reliable source within the club confirmed that Aucho’s previous contract had expired, prompting negotiations that led to his one-year renewal.

“We are happy to announce that Aucho has signed a one-year contract. He will stay with us until next year,” the source stated.

Meanwhile, Yanga’s acquisition of Mohamed Doumbia signals the club’s intent to inject fresh talent into the midfield. The Ivorian playmaker most recently featured for Slovan Liberec in the Czech Republic’s top-flight league.

He is already in Tanzania and is expected to join the club’s pre-season training camp at the end of this month.

Doumbia is widely regarded for his creativity, technical ability, and vision on the ball. Known for his dribbling skills and playmaking instincts, the 25-year-old is seen as a valuable addition who can add flair and balance to Yanga’s midfield structure.

His arrival is anticipated to strengthen the team’s attacking transitions and provide greater depth as they prepare for a challenging season ahead, both locally and in CAF interclub competitions.

Yanga’s management has remained proactive in the transfer market as they look to build on the momentum of last season’s success, which saw them clinch multiple trophies and gain continental respect.

The club’s goal is clear: to maintain their stranglehold on the Tanzanian Premier League while making a deeper impact in CAF competitions.

The retention of experienced players like Aucho and the introduction of fresh talent like Doumbia demonstrate Yanga’s strategic approach to squad development.

With these key moves, Yanga have laid a solid foundation for another promising campaign one that could see the Jangwani-based club reach even greater heights.
